PROTOCOL

When you study in a university or work in an organization, you are subjected to certain dos and don'ts that you need to follow like Reaching on time, wearing formals and submitting assignments within the given deadline. The word protocol basically means a set of rules and guidelines that are needed to be followed by people.

It refers to an appropriate behaviour and rules of conduct for a particular situation or an event. So when you follow your office etiquettes, it means you are following the protocol. It could also mean a formal agreement between two parties. A protocol guides you how an activity should be performed especially in the field of diplomacy.

For example, a President of one country visiting another country is to be received by a person in a similar position and status in the host country. This is a kind of protocol and should not be violated. In the field of technology, a standard method for connecting computers for an exchange of data among them is also a protocol. As the word protocol is a kind of 'set of rules', it is a noun.

A feather in a cap is a symbol of achievement and signifies a mark of distinction. When your efforts are acknowledged, you feel extremely proud and this adds to a feather in your cap. PHOBIA

Do you fear something in your life ? and you don't know what is the cause of it? The word phobia basically means to have a fear of a particular object or situation. A phobia is a fear which can interfere with your ability to socialize, work or do your daily chores. When you have a phobia of something or a situation, you avoid facing them even after knowing they are not harmful or dangerous. A phobia can give you a panic attack or make you feel totally helpless.

There are many types of phobias that include fear of animal, heights, crowds and social events. Many times a bad experience which you can't get over develops a phobia. Many people have a phobia of water, they are extremely scared to swim or do any water based activities. This could be due a bad experience they have faced in their past. Most children fear darkness and are too afraid to sit in a dark room.

A person who has a phobia is known as phobic. For example, when a friend of yours has phobia of snakes, she begins to fear even on a discussion on snakes or by looking at a picture of a snake. As the word phobia is a kind of fear, it is a noun.

In your daily routine, you may have faced something that left you feeling extremely surprised, as it was unexpected. The idiom a bolt from the blue basically means, to feel surprised due to something that you never expected. It means if something happens unexpectedly and suddenly, it is a bolt from the blue. If a lightning bolt were to strike a clear blue sky, it would be quite unexpected.
