TO OPEN A CAN OF WORMS

To open a can of worms. Sometimes, certain things that you say or do, put you in a situation which is hard to deal with, you find yourself in a big mess. 
This means knowingly or unknowingly you have landed up in a difficult situation. To open a can of worms, basically means, to be in a difficult situation or a very big problem. 
By opening a can of worms, you actually open the door to a whole set of new problems. So when you find yourself in a complex situation dealing with such a situation, is very difficult and you actually get caught up in the middle of worms. ç
You can use this phrase to describe a situation which is difficult to handle or solve and you feel stuck, not knowing how to come out of such a messy situation with the right solution.

Example 01 : I won't ask about Maria's divorce status, I would be opening a can of worms for myself. 
Ex 02 : Repairing a car machine is one thing, but dealing with a truck machine is a whole can of worms for the mechanic, as he is a fresher is this field. 
Ex 03 : The shortcut to the highway seemed easy on the map, but when we went through, it was nothing, but a can of worms. 
Ex 04 : After hyping up the political scandal, the media found themselves in a can of worms. 
Ex 05 : Sam is focusing on his final year of graduation, advising him to take up a job this year, would open a can of worms.
Ex 06 : Declaring the company's poor financial position to our investors, will open a can of worms, which will lead to further complications. 
Ex 07 : By bringing up the fight you had with Lisa last night, you are opening a can of worms as it will lead to a further mess. 
Ex 08 : When I asked Mary about her new means of earning money, she got offended, I didn't realize that I was opening a can of worms. 
Ex 09 : With so much diversity in our country, making a public comment on any community, would open a can of worms. 
Ex 10 : Buying the shares of a company we don't know of, would be opening a can of worms. 
Ex 11 : Be careful ! If you get into a partnership business with your nasty friend, William, you are opening a can of worms for yourself. 
Ex 12 : William opened a can of worms by double timing his girlfriend. 
Ex 13 : The Minister's insensitive speech towards the minorities, opened a huge can of worms for his party.

FORCED TO PAY HIGH INTEREST RATES

Older skyscrapers now share the skyline with unfinished ones in Benidorm. Since the start of the financial crisis, Spain has seen its deficits swell and it has been forced to pay high interest rates as investors worry about its solvency. Given the size of the Spanish economy and the weakness of its banks, Spain has become one of the biggest concerns facing the European Union.
Rascacielos más viejos comparten el paisaje con los inacabados en Benidorm. Desde el comienzo de la crisis financiera, España ha visto dispararse su deficit y se ha visto obligada a pagar altas tasas de interes ya que los inversores dudan de su solvencia. Dado el tamaño de la economia española y la debilidad de sus bancos, España se ha convertido en una de las más grandes preocupaciones que enfrenta la Union Europa.

IMPECCABLE

Sometimes certain things seem just perfect. It could be an absolute idea, a perfect trait of a person or anything that appeals to you and is free from defects. 
Don't you want our performances at our work places to be impeccable ? 
That means, you want your performance to be perfect or flawless. 
Or don't you want to have an impeccable approach towards life in order to make our lives worth living? 
When you pay through your nose at a five star hotel, you expect impeccable service. 
Thus, 'impeccable' means something that is flawless or free from any faults. 
As the word 'Impeccable' describes something or someone being flawless, it is an Adjective.

Example 01 : We got an impeccable deal for this apartment, I couldn't ask for more. 
Ex 02 : My grandfather had always been admired for his impeccable style of dressing. 
Ex 03 : Impeccable timing ! My flight had landed in the city, before it started raining.

HELP IS DEEPLY EMBARRASSING

A protest against cuts to medical services for immigrants. About a third of those seeking help from the charity, the Caritas report said, had never used a food pantry or a soup kitchen before the economic crisis hit. For many of them, the need to ask for help is deeply embarrassing. In some cases, families go to food pantries in neighboring towns so their friends and acquaintances won’t see them.


















Una protesta contra los recortes saniyarios para inmigrantes. Alrededor de un tercio de los que piden ayuda a caridad, informa Caritas, nunca habian pedido comida o acudido a un comedor social antes del impacto de la crisis. A muchos de ellos, la necesidad de ayuda les avergüenza profundamente. En muchos casos las familias van a pedir comida a pueblos vecinos para que sus amigos y conocidos no los vean.

SKEPTICAL

Skeptical : Meaning : in doubt or unwilling to believe 
Many a times you aren't sure about something, which means, you have some doubt about it. 
If someone tells you something that you aren't willing to believe, that means you are skeptical about what is told to you. being skeptical basically means to be in doubt about something or you are not believing it. 
If you are skeptical about something, you are always in two minds, for example, whether is it possible or is it not possible, OR is that true or not, can I fulfill a particular commitment or not ? 
In short, it leaves you feeling very unsure about something. 
You are often skeptical before making big decisions in your life, such as deciding which career you should opt for. 
That means you are not sure or you are in doubt about the choice you make. 
When it's difficult or hard to believe something or someone, you are skeptical, you are unwilling to believe or you doubt something. 
As the word 'sceptical' describes a person's feeling, it is an Adjective.

Ex 01 : They say that apples clean your teeth, but I'm skeptical about that as I doubt it is true. 
Ex 02 : The employees are very skeptical about the change in the Management. 
Ex 03 : The doctor is skeptical about his patient's recovery, as the medicines are not helping any longer.

HOUSEHOLDS WERE LIVING IN POVERTY

Union supporters demonstrated in southern Spain. A report by Caritas, the Catholic charity, found that 22 percent of Spanish households were living in poverty and about 600,000 had no income whatsoever. These numbers are expected to continue to get worse in the coming months.
Simpatizantes sindicales se manifestaron en el sur de España. Un informe de Caritas, la caridad católicca, encontró que  el 22 por ciento de los hogares españoles  estaban viviendo en la pobreza y más de 600.000 no tuvieron ningun tipo de ingreso. Se prevee que estas cifras empeoraran en los proximos meses.

APPEASE

This means to calm or satisfy a person, usually by giving what was asked for. 
It could also mean , giving into the demands of someone or a situation. 
When your friends are arguing, you try to calm down the situation, that means you appease such a situation. 
Sometimes, store managers have to give extra benefits to appease angry customers. 
So basically, the word 'appease' means, to calm or satisfy a person, or a desire, by giving what is asked for or needed. 
'Appease' is a Verb, as it is an act of satisfying or calming.
Example 01 : The audience was not appeased by the most awaited film of the year. 
Ex. 02 : I don't understand how you appease your angry boss each time ! Please teach me the trick. 
Ex. 03 : The father was able to appease his naughty children by promising them some cookies.

CUTS TO FREE MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

People demonstrated in Barcelona against recent cuts to free medical assistance for illegal immigrants. Little relief is in sight as the country’s regional governments, facing their own budget crisis, are chipping away at a range of previously free services, including school lunches for low-income families.



















La gente se manifesta en Barcelona contra recientes recortes a la asistencia medica gratuita para inmigrantes indocumentados. Hay pocas perspectivas de mejoria ya que los gobiernos regionales del pais, que enfrentan sus propias crisis de presupuesto, estan renunciando a una amplia gama de servicios anteriormente gratuitos  que incluian comidas escolares para familias con bajos ingresos.
